The .fir file extension represents two distinct but common formats: the Canon EOS Firmware update file and the SIGER Digitally Signed Document (Firma Digital).

For photographers, a .fir file is a binary container holding system software for Canon cameras (like the EOS 5D or R5). These files are not designed to be opened on a computer. A major limitation is that users double-click them expecting an installer or text file, but the operating system cannot read the proprietary binary structure. Converting this file is technically impossible in the traditional sense; instead, the "conversion" process involves copying the file directly to the root directory of a camera's SD card to trigger an internal update.

In the context of Mexican business and legal procedures, a .fir file is a Firma Digital (Digital Signature) generated by the SIGER (Sistema Integral de Gestión Registral). These are often encrypted containers (essentially renamed ZIP files) holding notarial documents or certificates. Users struggle to access the contents without the specific government software.

For SIGER/Documents: If valid, changing the extension from .fir to zip may allow you to extract the contained PDF or XML data.
