About UP2 files

The .UP2 file is a proprietary firmware update package used to upgrade solar inverters and communication devices manufactured by SMA Solar Technology AG. These files contain compiled software patches that improve hardware efficiency or fix system bugs. Users typically interact with these files using the SMA Sunny Explorer software or by uploading them directly via the inverter's built-in WebUI. The major disadvantage of this format is that it is completely proprietary. It is not supported by web browsers, it requires specific physical hardware to execute, and it provides no built-in way to read release notes directly from the file.
