To convert other file formats to the "Finite Element Analysis" file type, you need software like LIRA-SAPR or a similar tool.
The .FEP file extension is most frequently associated with Structural Analysis Models created by engineering software suites like LIRA-SAPR or SCAD Office. These files store Finite Element Method (FEM) data, including mesh geometry, loads, material properties, and calculation results used to simulate building stability. A secondary but common use is within Sage 100 (formerly Sage 100cloud) ERP systems, where the file functions as a Report Parameter File (often referencing the French "Fichier États Paramétrables") to define custom layouts for invoices or balance sheets.
The main difficulty with .FEP files is their strict proprietary nature. A structural model saved in a specific version of LIRA-SAPR is often incompatible with other FEM tools like ANSYS or standard CAD viewers, creating a "black box" effect for architects needing to reference the geometry. Similarly, Sage report files are useless outside the ERP environment. Users frequently encounter friction when trying to share engineering data with clients who do not possess expensive, specialized licenses.
To overcome these interoperability hurdles, the best workflow involves converting the source data. For structural models, exporting the geometry to DXF or DWG allows for editing in AutoCAD, while IFC is preferred for BIM integration in Revit. For final documentation and archiving, rendering the analysis reports or Sage layouts to PDF ensures the data remains viewable without the original host software.
