About EZC files
The .ezc filename extension represents three distinct file formats, each requiring a specific approach to conversion.
1. EasyCrypt Encrypted Archive (Primary Use)
Most users (over 90%) encountering an .ezc file possess an Encrypted File Archive created by EasyCrypt. These files act as secure digital vaults, wrapping documents, images, or folders in heavy encryption to prevent unauthorized access.
Common Friction Points:
- Locked Content: Unlike standard ZIP or RAR archives, you cannot preview or extract contents without the original EasyCrypt software and the correct password.
- No Direct Conversion: You cannot convert an encrypted .ezc directly to PDF or DOCX. The file is effectively a scrambled data block until unlocked.
- Software Obscurity: The specific version of EasyCrypt used to generate these files is often difficult to locate on modern web searches.
Best Conversion Strategy:
The only way to "convert" this file is to decrypt it using the original utility. Once unlocked, the internal files (which could be JPG, XLSX, or AVI) can be converted normally.
2. Eazy-Cover Design File
A legacy use case for .ezc is a CD/DVD Cover Design project created by Eazy-Cover (often distributed with older CD burning suites like Easy CD Creator). These files contain layout data, text, and images for printing physical disc labels.
Real-World Constraints:
- Proprietary Lock-in: These files are not image files (like JPG); they are project files. Modern image viewers and web browsers cannot open them.
- Obsolescence: The software is largely discontinued, making these files difficult to view on Windows 10 or 11.
Best Target Formats:
- For Viewing/Printing: Convert to PDF or TIFF. This preserves the visual layout of the CD cover for printing without needing the original design software.
- For Web: Convert to PNG or JPG for easy sharing.
3. AutoCAD Ecscad Backup
Rarely, an .ezc file is an AutoCAD Ecscad Components Backup generated by AutoCAD. These are automated backups of electrical component libraries.
Restoration:
These are not meant for direct conversion. To use them, you typically rename the extension to replace a corrupted component file within the AutoCAD environment.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EZC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted EZD, XIA, AES and ETZ files.
The EZC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EZC converter.
