About XIA files

A .XIA file is a secure, encrypted container created by Chiasmus, a software tool developed by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Unlike standard files, you cannot simply "convert" a .XIA file to PDF or DOCX using a web converter because the data is scrambled using proprietary government-grade encryption (often used for VS-NfD classified communication). To use this file, you must first decrypt it using the Chiasmus for Windows or Linux utility and the correct password or .XIS key file. Once decrypted, the file reverts to its original format (e.g., a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or JPEG image), which can then be edited, printed, or converted normally. Users often encounter these files when dealing with legacy German government data or secure organizational transfers.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XIA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EZC, SDD and AES files.

The XIA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XIA converter.
