About EZ files

The .ez file extension is heavily fragmented and serves several completely different purposes. Most commonly (about 25% of the time), it is an Erlang plugin archive used by software like RabbitMQ. In this case, the file is simply a standard ZIP archive containing compiled Erlang/OTP bytecode. Another significant use case is as an antenna analysis model for EZNEC, storing proprietary 4NEC2 antenna modeling data.

The massive disadvantage of the .ez format is this fragmentation. You cannot know what the file is just by looking at the extension. Worse, many .ez files are encrypted backups. Software like EasyCrypt or the Dapodik Helper Application (an Indonesian school management system) output .ez files that are actually encrypted 7Z archives. If you encounter an encrypted variant, it is practically useless without the original software and a decryption password.

Because the extension is overloaded, standard online converters usually fail. You cannot simply convert an antenna model into an audio file or an encrypted backup into a readable document. If you have an EZNEC model, the proprietary nature of the data means you must use EZNEC itself to export the measurements to TXT or CSV.

However, there is a realistic workaround. Our analyzer ignores the confusing .ez extension and scans the internal file signature. If we detect an underlying ZIP, GZ, or 7Z structure - which is very common for Erlang plugins and unencrypted backups - we can bypass the proprietary limits, let you inspect the internal text or bytecode, and extract the hidden data directly.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EZPDF, EZD, EXE, IWA, TAR and PKZ files.
