Convert ESG to another file type
To convert your ESG file to another format, you need APD 2000 or other Data software.
Convert a file to ESG
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data" file type, you need software like APD 2000 or a similar tool.
About ESG files
The .esg extension primarily represents X-ray diffraction (XRD) data generated by GNR analytical instruments, specifically the APD 2000 series diffractometers. These files contain critical crystallographic data - such as diffraction angles (2-Theta) and intensity counts - used to identify material phases and structures.
The main problem users face is that .esg is a proprietary output format tailored to GNR APD 2000 software. It is not natively supported by standard analysis tools like Excel, OriginLab, or generic Rietveld refinement software (e.g., FullProf). Researchers often find themselves unable to plot or analyze their data away from the lab instrument. To use this data for publication or deep analysis, you typically need to convert it to ASCII formats like CSV, XY, or DAT.
In a completely different context (approx. 8% of cases), an .esg file is a Game Save for Endless Space 2 by Amplitude Studios. Here, the file is actually a standard GZIP compressed archive disguised with a different extension. Gamers frequently face difficulties when trying to 'mod' or edit their save states because the file appears unreadable. The practical workaround is renaming the extension to zip or gz to extract and edit the internal Game.xml file.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ESG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ESG file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use APD 2000 or similar software from the "X-ray Diffraction Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to ESG, try APD 2000 or another comparable tool in the "X-ray Diffraction Data" category.
The ESG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ESG converter.
