Convert a file to EPJ
To convert other file formats to the "CAD Project File" file type, you need software like EPLAN Electric P8 or a similar tool.
About EPJ files
A .EPJ file is most commonly an electrical engineering project file created by EPLAN Electric P8, or a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design file used by MagiCAD. These files store project structures, metadata, hardware configurations, and system schematics used in large-scale industrial and architectural workflows. Lesser-known variations use the .EPJ extension for Grass Valley EDIUS video sequences, Number One Systems Easy-PC PCB jobs, or Dakota Photo Book albums.
Opening and editing these files directly requires specialized, expensive software like EPLAN Electric P8 or MagiCAD. The .EPJ format is highly fragmented and proprietary. It requires a paid license to natively read the complex database structures, meaning clients and external contractors cannot open these files in standard web browsers or free CAD viewers. Furthermore, for EPLAN, the .EPJ file is often just an XML index file that points to external databases; without the accompanying project folder, the file is virtually useless.
To share these engineering designs, you must export the project to a universal target format like PDF, DWG, or DXF using the native application. Converting to these formats flattens the interactive database into 2D vector layouts, ensuring universal viewing compatibility while stripping out proprietary engineering data.
Because .EPJ files act as project envelopes - often structured as XML or ZIP archives - standard online converters fail to parse their proprietary contents. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the data may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EPJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EPJ file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use EPLAN Electric P8 or similar software from the "Electrical CAD Project Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to EPJ, try EPLAN Electric P8 or another comparable tool in the "Electrical CAD Project Storage" category.
The EPJ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPJ converter.
