Second, an .ENL file acts merely as a pointer and header; the actual bulk of the library resides in an associated .Data folder. Moving or emailing an .ENL file without this folder breaks the library, a frequent problem for users collaborating on research.
To ensure data accessibility and interoperability, it is highly recommended to convert .ENL content into standardized exchange formats. For importing into open-source tools like Zotero or Mendeley, convert to RIS or BIB (BibTeX). For data archiving or parsing, XML is preferred, while TXT or RTF are ideal for generating quick, human-readable reference lists.
