The most frequent use is within the Dental CAD/CAM industry, where it serves as a project container (often ZIP-compressed) for Dentsply Sirona CEREC or exocad systems. These files are strictly locked to clinical environments, making it impossible to share patient 3D data or X-rays with labs or patients who do not possess expensive, dongle-protected software. The second major format is the Dewesoft Data File, generated by Dewesoft X software for high-speed data acquisition. These binary files are optimized for writing speed, not compatibility, meaning they cannot be opened in Microsoft Excel or text editors natively.
