About TRANS files

.TRANS files primarily function as game translation project files utilized by localization tools like Translator++. They store structured text data, mapping original game dialogues to translated strings. They are also heavily used by the RPG Maker MV Translation Patcher. Alternative variants include generated thumbnails in FirstSpirit CMS which act as JPG files, or data transport packages for CASY terminals functioning as ZIP archives. The primary disadvantage of a .TRANS file is its strict association with specific niche software and severe fragmentation. Sharing the same extension across indie game localization, CMS image thumbnails, and telecom gateway logs causes constant system errors. If you do not have Translator++ installed, you cannot easily open or edit the translation grids. The file natively lacks broad operating system support and requires a specialized environment. For localization files, we recommend converting to JSON or TXT to edit strings in a standard code editor. For image or archive variants, converting to JPG or ZIP restores access without data loss. Because this file format is heavily fragmented, it is difficult to open or convert blindly. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TRANS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, HRF, UDM and RMB files.

The TRANS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TRANS converter.
