About DSB files

DSB files are widely recognized as Tajima Embroidery Design files, serving as the instruction sets for industrial sewing machines. These files contain stitch coordinates, trim commands, and color change data specifically optimized for Tajima equipment. A major difficulty for textile professionals is that .DSB is a machine-centric format, meaning it lacks the vector metadata (like original artwork paths) found in design files, and it is often incompatible with consumer machines like Brother or Janome without conversion.

However, the file extension is heavily overloaded. A significant portion of .DSB files are actually DesignBuilder Project files used for building energy simulations and environmental modeling. These are typically ZIP-compressed containers holding XML data, requiring DesignBuilder to open. Additionally, gamers might encounter .DSB files as dialogue audio assets in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or as laser cutting paths generated by LaserCut 5.3.

For embroidery purposes, the best workflow is converting .DSB to widely supported machine formats like DST (Tajima standard), PES (Brother), or EXP (Melco). For archiving or client approval, converting the stitch data to PDF or a raster preview (PNG) is essential to visualize the design without expensive CAM software. If dealing with game audio, extracting the stream to WAV or MP3 is the standard approach.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DSB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DSBX, DST, JPG, EMB, PNG, PDF, TIF, JPEG, ZIP, ENC, DL6 and 00000001DIF files.

The DSB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DSB converter.
