About DSA files

A .dsa file is most likely one of two completely different formats: a legacy automation script for DAZ Studio or a cryptographic key used for digital signatures.

If you are a 3D artist, you are likely dealing with a DAZ Studio script. These files contain code to automate tasks, apply presets, or modify characters within the DAZ 3D environment. The friction here is age: .dsa is a deprecated format (DAZ Script 2), largely replaced by the newer JSON-based DUF format or encrypted DSE files. Users often need to convert these to plain TXT to read the logic or inspect parameters, as modern versions of DAZ Studio may treat them as legacy assets.

If you are a developer or system administrator, the file is a Digital Signature Algorithm private key. These are critical for SSH authentication and SSL certificates. The challenge is compatibility; a raw DSA key generated on Linux (OpenSSH) often won't work directly with Windows tools like PuTTY, requiring conversion to PPK. Conversely, you might need to convert a binary DER-encoded key to the text-based PEM format for web servers.

Less commonly, this extension appears as an SQLite database in the game Drakensang, or as a zipped archive in Xilinx Vitis.
