About DRF files

The .DRF extension primarily identifies Document Reference Files used by iManage Work (formerly Interwoven WorkSite). These lightweight files serve as network shortcuts, containing metadata and Document IDs that point to the actual content (such as DOCX or PDF) stored within a corporate Document Management System (DMS). A critical limitation for users is that .DRF files do not hold the document text itself; sending this file to a client outside your network is effectively sending a broken link. Without the specific iManage client software and network permissions, the file is unreadable.

Beyond corporate document management, the extension is also used by Autodesk VIZ (VIZ Render) for architectural 3D rendering scenes, often linked to AutoCAD Architecture. These proprietary graphics files require specific Autodesk tools to open and are not supported by standard image viewers. Less common variants include Ubiq UbiReport design files (which are typically ZIP compressed XML) and Dynojet WinPEP files containing dynamometer run data for vehicle tuning.

For iManage: You typically cannot convert the .DRF itself; you must use the DMS to export the target document as a PDF.
