About DRF files
The .DRF file extension serves multiple specialized functions, most commonly acting as a Document Management System (DMS) reference file within enterprise environments using iManage Work or TerraGo Publisher. In these cases, it functions as a pointer to metadata rather than a self-contained document. Alternatively, the format is used by Ubiq for UbiReport designer forms (packaged as internal ZIP archives), by Dynojet for dynamometer run data, by Hartridge for XML based diesel injector test reports, and by Autodesk for VIZ Render files. Users frequently need to convert .DRF files because they are highly proprietary, often lack self-contained readable text, and cannot be opened natively by web browsers or standard office suites. For example, viewing a Dynojet run requires specific Windows-only software, posing a major disadvantage for Mac users or casual viewers. Depending on the file's origin, the best conversion targets are PDF for sharing test reports or CAD drawings, XML for extracting structured data, or ZIP to unpack report forms. Note that converting specialized CAD or dynamometer data to a flat format like PDF will result in the loss of interactive metadata. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to parse its closed, proprietary containers or recognize simple pointer files.
