To convert other file formats to the "Furniture Planning Project" file type, you need software like furnplan or a similar tool.
A .DHP file is primarily a proprietary furniture planning project file created by furnplan by D+H Software GmbH. It stores 3D room layouts, furniture placement coordinates, and vendor pricing data used by interior designers and retailers. Additionally, the .DHP extension is utilized for machine embroidery designs by Dahao embroidery systems (sometimes referred to as Digital Heat Press files) and as drone parameter backup files generated by DJI Assistant 2.
The biggest disadvantage of .DHP files is their highly proprietary and fragmented nature. A furnplan .DHP file requires an expensive commercial license to open, locking your 3D layout inside their ecosystem. It cannot be viewed natively in standard CAD software or web browsers. Dahao embroidery files similarly rely on specialized manufacturing hardware. These strict vendor lock-ins make sharing designs with clients, third-party manufacturers, or external collaborators incredibly difficult.
Ideally, you want to convert furnplan .DHP files to standard 3D formats like OBJ or DXF, or export them to PDF for client viewing. DJI drone parameter files, which are structured internally as JSON, can be easily converted to TXT or CSV for readable data analysis.
Because .DHP is a closed, proprietary format for most of its use cases, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the 3D data or embroidery paths.
