About DGP files

The .dgp extension is a source of confusion because it serves two contradictory purposes: modern data compliance and legacy digital media.

  1. Data Governance Policy: In modern enterprise contexts, this file typically contains Data Governance Policy definitions, often associated with privacy vaults like Skyflow or compliance suites like Microsoft Purview. These are structured data archives (often XML or JSON wrapped in a ZIP container) used to transport rules about data residency, masking, and access. They are proprietary and cannot be "opened" by standard text editors without corruption.
  2. Legacy Digital Greetings: If you found this file in an old personal backup, it is likely a "Digital Greeting People" photo album. These are actually renamed EXE executables from the early 2000s designed to play a slideshow. The major downside here is that modern operating systems (Windows 10/11) often block these files as security risks or lack the legacy dependencies to run them.
  3. Industrial Configuration: In niche engineering scenarios, it may be a configuration file for GE Vernova protection relays.
