Convert a file to AFPK
To convert other file formats to the "Audio Fingerprint Data" file type, you need software like audfprint or a similar tool.
About AFPK files
The .AFPK file extension primarily represents an Audio Fingerprint Peak Data file generated by the audfprint system, an open-source audio identification tool developed by Daniel P. W. Ellis. These files store binary arrays of spectrogram peaks extracted from audio tracks, allowing the software to match audio snippets against a master database. A secondary use for the .AFPK extension is as an Audiobook Package file associated with Audible and the Audiobook File Player Kit.
The primary disadvantage of the .AFPK format is its highly specialized and proprietary nature. The audio fingerprint data is strictly formatted for the Python-based audfprint script, meaning it cannot be opened by standard text editors, audio players, or database software. Conversely, the Audible variant is typically locked behind Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption. This limits your playback options to official, authorized applications and prevents you from archiving your purchased content on standard MP3 players.
Users frequently want to convert .AFPK fingerprint files to CSV or JSON for external data analysis, or extract the audio from audiobook packages into MP3 or M4B formats for universal playback. Unfortunately, standard online converters fail to process .AFPK files because they lack the niche algorithms required to parse spectrogram peak arrays or bypass audiobook DRM.
Because this is a closed or specialized format, it is extremely difficult to convert. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as plain text peak coordinates or unencrypted audio streams - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AFPK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AFPK file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use audfprint or similar software from the "Audio Fingerprint Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to AFPK, try audfprint or another comparable tool in the "Audio Fingerprint Data Storage" category.
The AFPK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AFPK converter.
