About DF3 files

The .DF3 extension refers to two completely different file types that require distinct handling. The most technically "convertible" format is the POV-Ray Density File, a 3D volumetric data format used by the Persistence of Vision Raytracer (POV-Ray) to simulate smoke, fire, and cloud density. These files contain a simple 6-byte header followed by raw voxel data (integer values). Users often struggle with these because they are not standard 3D meshes (like OBJ or STL) and cannot be opened in typical CAD software like Blender without specific import scripts or plugins.

Conversely, a .DF3 file may be a firmware update package for specific hardware, most notably Duosat satellite receivers or industrial appliance controllers (such as washing machine logic boards associated with A03E/A03S series). In this context, the file is a proprietary binary container meant strictly for flashing via USB or serial connection.

The DF3 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DF3 converter.
