About DIX files
The .dix extension is a fragmented format primarily associated with proprietary databases for embedded systems and specialized professional software. The most common variation (approx. 41%) is a Satellite Receiver Database generated by set-top boxes running ALI Corporation chipsets. These binary files store channel configurations, transponder frequencies, and user favorites exported to USB for backup or editing. Users frequently attempt to convert these to human-readable text or CSV to reorder channel lists on a PC, but the format is a compiled binary blob locked to specific firmware versions.
A second major use (approx. 7%) is within the stenography industry as a Dictionary File for Advantage Software Eclipse. These files map steno strokes to English text and are crucial for court reporters. While they can sometimes be exported to RTF or TXT for backup, the raw .dix file is designed for the Eclipse engine's real-time translation.
Other variations include data files for the Digi-Flange pipeline management app and export packages for DIVA-GIS. Opening a .dix file requires identifying its origin; a satellite file will look like garbled code in a text editor, whereas a dictionary file may show readable text mixed with control characters.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DIX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted DDT, NDX, DBI and MYI files.
The DIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DIX converter.
