About AGN files

The .AGN file extension serves multiple distinct purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly, it is an automation project file used by IRAI AUTOMGEN, a platform for simulating and programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). Alternatively, it functions as a game terrain data file in the classic Age of Empires series (utilizing the RIFF container format) or as an augmented reality 3D model package for the Augment platform (structured as a standard ZIP archive). Historically, it was also used for personal diaries on old Psion Series 3 PDAs and Corel WordPerfect Office. The primary disadvantage of .AGN files is their extreme software dependency. If you receive an .AGN file without knowing its source, opening it is a frustrating guessing game. Furthermore, these proprietary formats lack native support in modern operating systems and web browsers. Attempting to share an AUTOMGEN project or an Augment 3D model as an .AGN file usually results in the recipient being unable to view the contents without purchasing an expensive license or installing legacy software. To make these files universally usable, conversion is highly recommended. If you are dealing with an Augment 3D model, convert it to a standard GLTF or OBJ for broad web and software compatibility.
