About DDR files

A .DDR file generally stores specialized game data, and its exact structure depends entirely on the game that created it. For the upcoming MMORPG Ashes of Creation, it acts as a game data definition file stored in plain JSON format. In the MMORPG Metin2, it functions as a proprietary anti-cheat replay file used to verify player actions. Alternatively, rhythm games like StepMania use it to store Dance Dance Revolution beatmap chart data.

Working with .DDR files outside of their native games is often frustrating. Because these formats are built specifically for game engine optimization or security, they are typically proprietary. Replay files, for example, are binary and locked down to prevent tampering, meaning you cannot open them in standard media players. You cannot directly convert a game replay into a video file, which forces players to rely on clunky screen recording workarounds.

When modding or extracting data, users need to convert these files into accessible formats. If the file is data-driven, converting it to JSON, XML, or TXT makes it readable for game modifications. If it is a replay file, the only way to "convert" it to MP4 or MKV is to play the file within the original game and record the screen. Direct data conversion of anti-cheat files is practically impossible.

Because .DDR files are highly specialized game assets, standard online converters almost always fail to process them. Often, only the original game software can properly read, execute, or export the data. However, you can still drop your file into convert.guru. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format - like plain text or embedded JSON - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DDR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CDR, DDS, LRC, SMZIP and RAW files.

The DDR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DDR converter.
