Convert a file to DCMD
To convert other file formats to the "Disk Catalog File" file type, you need software like DiskCatalogMaker or a similar tool.
About DCMD files
A .DCMD file is a DiskCatalogMaker Thumbnail-Enabled Catalog created by DiskCatalogMaker, a popular macOS disk management utility developed by Fujiwara Software. It functions as a searchable database, storing the file hierarchy, metadata, and generated image thumbnails from scanned CDs, DVDs, hard drives, and network volumes.
The main disadvantage of the .DCMD format is its closed, proprietary nature. Files can easily exceed hundreds of megabytes due to embedded thumbnails, and they cannot be natively read by web browsers, standard text editors, or Windows operating systems. This vendor lock-in traps your offline disk indexing data inside a specific Mac application. If you switch to a Windows PC or stop using the software, you instantly lose access to your cataloged drive data.
To ensure long-term accessibility, we recommend converting your data to open formats like CSV or TXT. You can also export reports to PDF. Keep in mind that converting to text-based formats will strip out the embedded thumbnails.
Because .DCMD is a proprietary database format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original DiskCatalogMaker software can properly read or export the internal catalog data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, partial viewing or data extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DCMD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DCMD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use DiskCatalogMaker or similar software from the "Disk Catalog Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DCMD, try DiskCatalogMaker or another comparable tool in the "Disk Catalog Database" category.
The DCMD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DCMD converter.
