About DCL files

The .DCL file format is fragmented across several distinct, unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it functions as a security audit report generated by Somarsoft DumpSec (now owned by SystemTools). System administrators used this legacy Windows utility to dump file system permissions, registry settings, and user rights. Alternatively, .DCL files serve as Dialog Control Language files in AutoCAD. These are plain text files that define the layout and behavior of custom dialog boxes used by AutoLISP scripts. A small percentage of these files are also document cluster files used by the iSilo document reader.

The main disadvantage of .DCL DumpSec reports is their legacy, proprietary formatting. This format effectively traps your audit data in a dead ecosystem, making it impossible to query or visualize in modern Business Intelligence tools. To make this data useful, you must convert these reports to CSV, TXT, or XLSX so they can be parsed by Microsoft Excel. For AutoCAD users, the challenge is syntax: while the files are plain text, breaking the rigid structural syntax renders the custom UI completely broken.

Because .DCL has multiple conflicting definitions - ranging from proprietary security data dumps to CAD interface scripts - standard online converters usually fail. They often misidentify the file or corrupt the raw data entirely. Just drag and drop your .DCL file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analysis engine will inspect the file signature, extract the raw text or internal content, and allow you to view or rescue the data even without the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DCL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VLX, PDF, DLL, ZIP, PHC, SLC and TC files.

The DCL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DCL converter.
