About IDE files

The .IDE extension represents a diverse set of file formats, most predominantly serving as Item Definition Files for Rockstar Games titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA III. In this context, these are plain text configuration files used by the RenderWare engine to link object identifiers with 3D model names (dff) and texture dictionaries (txd). While essential for modding, they can be fragile; incorrect editing leads to game crashes, and they are useless outside the specific game environment. Users often need to parse these into JSON or XML for external mod management tools.

A significant secondary usage is found within Android Studio, where .IDE files often function as internal SQLite databases storing project indexing and state data. These binary files are unreadable in standard text editors, requiring conversion to CSV or SQL for debugging or data analysis.

Additionally, high-fidelity sensor loggers from Mide (Slam Stick) generate .IDE files which are technically Matroska Video (MKV) containers holding vibration data and video. These require specialized proprietary software to view, creating a lock-in effect. For these files, the best conversion workflow is transforming them into standard MP4 for video playback or extracting the sensor streams into Excel (XLSX) or CSV for engineering analysis.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IDE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IDE10, PDE, INO and HEX files.

The IDE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IDE converter.
