About DBE files

A .DBE file typically functions as a proprietary backup archive created by MyPhoneExplorer, a popular synchronization and management tool for Android devices. Alternatively, depending on the file's age and source, it may be a legacy database backup from HP Palm Desktop, broadcast audio metadata for DAVID Systems DigaSystem, or even a compiled database program for dBASE IV.

The major disadvantage of the .DBE format is that it relies on a closed, proprietary ecosystem. For example, phone backups bundle contacts, text messages, call logs, and calendar events into a binary blob. You cannot simply double-click the file to read your messages; it requires installing specialized, sometimes outdated, desktop software. These files are completely unsupported by web browsers, standard text editors, or default operating system tools.

When dealing with .DBE files, users usually want to extract their trapped data. The most useful target formats for phone contacts or logs are universal standards like CSV, VCF (vCard), or plain TXT. However, direct conversion will likely lose application-specific settings, folder structures, or app configurations that the original backup intended to restore.

Because .DBE files lack a universal open standard, traditional online document converters will fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read the file and export the data. However, convert.guru provides a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the exact format, view its raw hex or text strings, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects an underlying standard format like an embedded SQLite database or uncompressed XML inside the archive, viewing or partial data extraction may still be possible without the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DBE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted JPA, DIY and NBU files.

The DBE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DBE converter.
