About DIY files
A .DIY file is predominantly a project file created by DIY Layout Creator (DIYLC), a popular open-source tool used by electronics hobbyists to design guitar effects, amplifiers, and PCB layouts. Unlike standard image files, a .DIY file does not contain a visual snapshot of the circuit; instead, it contains XML code describing the coordinates, connections, and properties of every component (resistors, capacitors, wires).
Because the file is essentially a text-based instruction set, you cannot view the schematic or layout by simply double-clicking it or opening it in a web browser. This is often frustrating for users who download a layout from a forum but lack the specific Java-based DIYLC software required to render it. Users frequently need to convert these files into portable formats like PDF for printing transfer paper, PNG for sharing on forums, or CSV to extract a Bill of Materials (BOM) for ordering parts. A secondary, less common use of the extension is for Driver Magician backup files, which are proprietary archives used to restore Windows device drivers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DIY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DIY file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use DIY Layout Creator or similar software from the "Circuit Layout Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to DIY, try DIY Layout Creator or another comparable tool in the "Circuit Layout Project" category.
The DIY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DIY converter.
