The .DAF file extension primarily represents a DupArchive, a proprietary compressed archive format generated by the Duplicator WordPress plugin (developed by SnapCreek). Unlike standard ZIP files, DAF archives are engineered to bypass server timeout limits on budget hosting environments by processing data in smaller chunks.
Because of this unique structure, users cannot open DAF files with standard utilities like WinRAR, 7-Zip, or macOS Archive Utility. This creates significant friction for developers who download a backup hoping to manually extract a specific plugin or theme file (e.g., wp-content), only to find the file unreadable.
