The .d2s extension represents two distinct, proprietary game formats that create significant accessibility challenges for players and modders.

Most commonly, a .d2s file is a binary Character Save File for the legendary RPG Diablo II (both the 2000 original and Resurrected). These files store encrypted hero data, including attributes, skills, quest progress, and inventory items. The primary constraint is that these files are not human-readable; you cannot simply open them in a text editor to view stats or fix corrupted data. Furthermore, legacy .d2s files may require conversion or specific import steps to function correctly in Diablo II: Resurrected, and the strict file checksum validation means any improper modification corrupts the character permanently.
