About D2X files

A .d2x file is a proprietary game data file associated with Diablo II mods, specifically used by tools like PlugY (The Survival Kit) for extended storage or various legacy maphacks. Unlike the standard D2S character save files, these files often contain extended stash data, personal stash configurations, or map reveal overlays that the base game cannot read natively.

The real problem for users is that .d2x files are strictly binary and version-dependent; attempting to open them in a text editor yields illegible gibberish. Furthermore, they lock your item data into a specific mod ecosystem, making it difficult to migrate characters to the remastered Diablo II: Resurrected or other mods without data loss. For archiving or inspecting loot outside the game, the best workflow is converting the binary data to human-readable JSON or TXT reports, or merging the data back into a standard D2S save file using a hero editor.

Convert.Guru analyzes your D2X file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted D2S, SSS and D2I files.
