To convert other file formats to the "Technical Illustration Drawing" file type, you need software like Canvas X or a similar tool.

About CVX files

The .CVX file extension represents a Technical Illustration Drawing created by Canvas X, a technical graphics software currently developed by Canvas GFX (formerly by ACD Systems). These files store complex composite layouts containing vector graphics, raster images, text, and CAD objects.

The main drawback of the .CVX format is its heavily proprietary nature. It locks your technical drawings into an expensive commercial ecosystem. Files can easily exceed hundreds of megabytes due to embedded high-resolution raster images and complex vector nodes. Opening a .CVX file usually requires an active, paid subscription for Canvas X. Standard web browsers and basic image viewers completely fail to process or render these files.

To share technical illustrations with clients or colleagues, you should convert .CVX files to universally supported formats. PDF is the best target for multi-page layouts and text retention. Use SVG for web-ready scalable vectors, or DXF if you need to import the linework into CAD software like AutoCAD. For simple viewing, raster formats like PNG or TIFF are acceptable, but you will lose editability and scalability.

Because .CVX is a closed, proprietary format, third-party online converters typically fail to process it. Often, only the original Canvas software can properly read or export the complex internal data. We can inspect the file's internal structure and show text or embedded content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CVX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSV, CNV, CVS, EPS, ZIP, VCEX, XLSX, PDF, DCF and THM files.

The CVX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CVX converter.
