The .DCF file format is primarily used as a Bill of Quantities document by ACCA Software PriMus, a construction cost estimating software widely used in Europe. These files store detailed construction costs, material lists, and labor estimates. Secondary uses include project data cache files for Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D (structured internally as an SQLite database) and Digital Rights Management (DRM) media containers established by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).
The main disadvantage of a .DCF file is its proprietary and closed nature. You cannot open an ACCA PriMus file natively in standard spreadsheet applications or web browsers without a paid license or specialized viewer. Similarly, OMA DRM files are explicitly encrypted to restrict playback to authorized devices, causing standard media players to fail. Deswik CAD mining projects and AutoCAD cache files are highly software-specific and useless outside their host applications.
