About CRZ files
The .CRZ file extension serves two distinct but technical purposes: it is either a fiscal data backup from Casio cash registers or a compressed character file for Poser 3D software.
1. Casio Cash Register Backup (Primary Use):
Most frequently, a .CRZ file contains the "Z-Report" (reset report) data exported from Casio electronic cash registers (such as the PCR-T or SE-S series). These files store daily sales totals, tax information, and department metrics saved to an SD card. The "Z" in the extension explicitly refers to the "Z Mode" (Z Report), which resets the register's totals after printing.
The Friction Point: These files are often just standard ZIP archives containing proprietary data or CSV spreadsheets renamed with a proprietary extension to prevent accidental tampering. Users often struggle because they cannot double-click to open them on a PC. To view the data, you often need to rename the file to ZIP and extract it, or use specific Casio utility software to interpret the hex code into a readable ledger.
2. Compressed Poser Character Rigging:
In the 3D graphics world, a .CRZ file is a "Compressed Rigging" file used by Poser (currently developed by Bondware). It is simply a standard CR2 character file that has been compressed using GZIP or ZIP algorithms to save disk space.
The Solution: Because the underlying data is just a text-based CR2 file inside a compressed wrapper, you typically do not need expensive conversion software. Renaming the file to ZIP and extracting it will recover the original CR2, which can then be imported into other 3D suites like DAZ Studio or converted to OBJ or FBX for use in Blender.
Recommended Conversion Targets:
- For Casio Analysis: Rename to ZIP to check for internal CSV files, or use Casio viewing tools to print to PDF.
- For 3D Editing: Decompress to CR2 for direct editing in text editors.
- For 3D Interoperability: Convert the extracted CR2 to OBJ or FBX.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CRZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CBZ, CR2, CRX, RSR, PPZ and MCZ files.
The CRZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CRZ converter.
