The main disadvantage of a .CPTX file is its proprietary nature. You cannot open or play these files natively in a web browser, standard video player, or learning management system (LMS). Users must pay for an expensive Adobe subscription just to view the raw project. Additionally, because they package uncompressed audio and high-resolution images, .CPTX files routinely exceed hundreds of megabytes, making them difficult to share via email.
To make the content usable, you must export the file to standard formats. The best conversion targets are .HTML5 to preserve interactivity for web viewing, or MP4 for standard video playback (though branching logic and interactive quizzes will be lost). Because it is internally structured as a standard archive, renaming it to ZIP allows you to extract raw media assets manually.
