About COX files

The .COX file extension primarily represents compiled model code generated by engineering tools from dSPACE. These files act as standard Windows executables (EXE) designed specifically to run simulated mathematical models on dSPACE real-time hardware platforms. They are heavily utilized in the automotive and aerospace industries for testing electronic control units (ECUs). A small number of .COX files also function as legacy extension modules for the classic Clickteam Click & Create 2D game engine.

Working with .COX files is notoriously frustrating for non-engineers. Because they are compiled binaries tied to expensive, proprietary hardware, they cannot be natively viewed, opened, or edited without an active commercial license for software like dSPACE ControlDesk. The format is entirely closed-source and highly system-dependent. You cannot open a .COX file in a standard text editor without seeing scrambled characters, and web browsers completely lack support for executing them.

Because .COX files consist of compiled machine code rather than documents or images, converting them to traditional formats like PDF or JPG is virtually impossible. If you need to extract data, the only realistic targets are raw text logs (TXT) or decompiled assembly code, though this process strips away all operational logic and context.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to process outside of its native development ecosystem. Usually, only the original compiling software can correctly parse or execute the underlying code. Standard online converters fail immediately because they expect standard media files, not proprietary executables. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your COX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CCN, MFA and IIT files.

FAQ

If you want to convert COX file to DLL, SO, DYLIB, BUNDLE, PLUGIN, XPI, CRX, SAFARIEXTZ, APPEX, KEXT, SYS or DRV, you can use dSPACE ControlDesk or similar software from the "Compiled Model Execution" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert LV2, DYLIB, VST, AAX, DRV, TDE, LADSPA, BUNDLE, AU, DLL, RTAS or SO files to COX, try dSPACE ControlDesk or another comparable tool in the "Compiled Model Execution" category.

The COX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our COX converter.
