About IIT files
The .IIT file extension primarily acts as an Install Creator Project File utilized by Clickteam Install Creator. It functions as a blueprint, storing configuration parameters, registry keys, textual dialogues, license agreements, and directory paths required to compile a final Windows installer (EXE). Less commonly, .IIT is used as a script file for Inno Setup, another popular open-source installation builder.
The core disadvantage of the .IIT format is its highly proprietary nature. An .IIT file does not actually embed the software files it intends to package; instead, it stores absolute file paths pointing to local assets on the original developer's machine. Sharing an .IIT file without its referenced source directory renders the project useless for compilation. Furthermore, because these are developer configuration files mapped to specific compilation engines, they are entirely unsupported by standard web browsers or generic document viewers.
Users typically look to convert or extract .IIT files to recover lost script logic, retrieve user agreement texts, or migrate setup parameters. The most practical conversion target is plain text (TXT) to read the script directives, or using the native software to compile the project into a functional executable (EXE).
Because this is a closed, proprietary developer format, standard online converters fail to process it. However, you can rely on convert.guru to bypass these hurdles. Just drag and drop your .IIT file to identify the exact format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects plain-text script data, you can read the internal configuration directly in your browser without needing to install the original building tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IIT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The IIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IIT converter.
