About IIT files
A .iit file is a project definition saved by Clickteam Install Creator, a legacy tool used to build lightweight Windows installers. Unlike the final EXE installer it generates, the .iit file acts as a blueprint - containing file paths, registry keys, license text, and compression settings - but not the actual file payloads themselves. Users often encounter these files when recovering old software source code or attempting to modify an existing installer configuration.
The key problem is that .iit files are proprietary and strictly non-executable; you cannot "run" them to install software. They require the specific version of Install Creator (Standard or Pro) to open. Furthermore, migrating these legacy projects to modern tools like Inno Setup is a manual process, as no direct converter exists.
For distribution, the standard workflow is to compile the .iit into a standalone EXE. For archiving or upgrading, users often convert (save as) to IIP (Install Creator Pro) format to unlock advanced features like multi-version support.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IIT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert IIT file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Clickteam Install Creator or similar software from the "Software Installer Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to IIT, try Clickteam Install Creator or another comparable tool in the "Software Installer Project" category.
The IIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IIT converter.
