The .COP file format is primarily used by Capture One as an image adjustment settings file. It stores non-destructive edits, masks, and metadata applied to RAW images. Because it only holds mathematical instructions and not actual image pixels, the format is deeply tied to the Capture One ecosystem. This creates a severe disadvantage for users: a .COP file is practically useless on its own. It requires the original RAW image and an active software subscription to read or render.
Alternatively, .COP files are generated by Blumatica Corrispettivi OP software for public works fee calculations. In this context, the file is simply an SQLite database. Other niche uses include company data backups created by Aplifisa software (which are essentially ZIP archives), and legacy vector graphics from Calamus DTP (which are based on TIFF).
Because this file format is heavily fractured across multiple proprietary systems, it is notoriously difficult to open or convert. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific rendering engines for photo edits.
