About CLOUD files
A .cloud file serves two distinct technical purposes. First, it is an Infinity Engine game save file used by Beamdog Enhanced Edition games such as Baldur's Gate. In this context, the file is essentially a renamed ZIP archive designed for cloud synchronization. Second, it functions as a compiled PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) application file created by the CODESYS development environment or PLCnext Engineer. In this industrial context, the file is a compiled ELF binary executable. Users often need to convert or inspect these files to modify game progress or verify PLC software versions. The main disadvantage is that the .cloud extension obscures the true underlying format. Standard text editors cannot read them, and operating systems will not offer a default application to open them. For game saves, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP archive, which allows you to extract the internal game data. For PLC binaries, no direct conversion to human-readable source code is possible due to the compiled nature of the ELF format. Standard online converters fail to process .cloud files because they do not recognize the dual nature of the extension. Often only the original software can properly read or execute the data.
