About CLK files
The .clk file extension serves multiple distinct purposes, though it is most frequently encountered as a Mimecast or WatchGuard cloaked security threat file. When an email gateway detects a potentially malicious attachment, it strips the original extension and renames it to .clk to prevent users from accidentally executing malware payloads. These files are functionally dead ends for standard users and require IT administrator intervention to uncloak if flagged as false positives. Beyond security, .clk is the native file type for legacy CorelDRAW R.A.V.E. animations. Based on the RIFF architecture, these files store vector animations that were once meant to compete with Flash. Because Corel R.A.V.E. was discontinued over a decade ago, these files are now trapped in a proprietary, obsolete format. You cannot open them in modern web browsers or standard media players. The extension is also used by the Clockology app to store custom Apple Watch faces in a JSON structure, and by ClickFORMS for real estate appraisal reports. Appraisal reports in this format are frustratingly locked to users holding active ClickFORMS software licenses. To restore usability, conversion is mandatory. For legacy Corel animations, convert to MP4 or GIF for reliable playback across modern devices. For ClickFORMS appraisals, convert the document to PDF for universal sharing and archiving.
