About CEX files
The .CEX extension is a shared battleground for three distinct industries, often causing confusion when a file refuses to open. primarily, it represents an Energy Efficiency Certificate generated by the CE3X software, the standard tool for certifying existing buildings in Spain. These files contain critical thermal geometry and compliance data. The friction here is high: the file is a proprietary data container, not a document. You cannot double-click to read it like a Word doc. Real estate agents and property owners almost always need this converted to PDF for legal filing or viewing.
Alternatively, if you work in engineering, your .CEX file is likely an administrative export from SolidWorks PDM (formerly Conisio). These files transport vault settings, workflows, and user permissions between servers. They are notoriously version-sensitive; trying to import a .CEX from a newer PDM version into an older one usually fails. Finally, in scientific labs, .CEX files store electrochemical impedance data from Zahner-Elektrik Thales software. These binary or text-based dumps are hostile to standard plotting software.
Best Conversion Targets:
- For CE3X (Energy): Convert to PDF to generate the official certificate for print/email.
- For Zahner (Science): Convert to CSV or XLSX to analyze data in Excel or MATLAB.
- For SolidWorks: Generally kept as .CEX for migration, but can sometimes be parsed as XML for debugging vault configurations.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CEX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CEDX, PDF, VCEX, ACSM, VTX, CGP, WF1 and DEX files.
The CEX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CEX converter.
