About HID files
The .HID file extension serves multiple, entirely different purposes depending on the software that created it. Most commonly (60% of cases), it is a hidden media vault file created by the Hide It Pro mobile application. Users employ this app to conceal personal photos and videos behind a functional audio manager interface. In these cases, the underlying format is usually a standard JPG image. Another notable use (17%) is for genetic fragment analysis data generated by Applied Biosystems GeneMapper software. Finally, .HID files can also store hidden WhatsApp videos as MP4, security system host IDs for Honeywell systems, or USB report descriptors for the USB Implementers Forum. The main disadvantage of the .HID format is its proprietary or obscured nature. Files created by Hide It Pro are deliberately hidden from your device's media gallery. If you uninstall the app or move the files to a PC, they become inaccessible. GeneMapper .HID files require expensive, highly specialized scientific software to open, creating strict vendor lock-in. To restore your media, the best conversion targets are JPG for images and MP4 for videos. Note that if the file is encrypted, simple renaming will not work and data loss is possible without the original password. Standard online converters fail to process .HID files because they do not recognize the extension or cannot bypass the obfuscation. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it often relies on either deliberate obscurity or niche scientific data structures. Only the original software can properly read or export the encrypted data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HID file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The HID Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HID converter.
