The .PDZ file extension represents a severe case of format collision. Depending on its origin, a .PDZ file is typically one of four entirely different formats: raw XRF spectrometer data from hardware like Thermo Scientific or Bruker, a packaged digital book used by the Chinese platform Chaoxing SuperStar Reader, a label design from Brother P-touch Editor, or a compiled game package for the Playdate console.
These files present immense challenges because they are heavily locked into native ecosystems. XRF data files require expensive, proprietary laboratory software to view elemental spectrum analysis. Chaoxing ebooks are DRM-protected packetized data files, making them incredibly difficult to read outside the official app. Playdate games are compiled code packages that cannot be easily reverse-engineered.
