About CAG files

The .CAG file extension primarily represents a proprietary Microscope Analysis Data file created by Keyence 3D laser scanning confocal microscopes. These files store high-resolution surface measurement topologies, laser intensity profiles, and optical color images. Alternatively, a .CAG file may function as an Absolute Database file used by Delphi developers via ComponentAce, or as a legacy ClipArt Gallery Package from older versions of Microsoft Office.

Handling .CAG files is extremely restrictive. Keyence files are locked within a proprietary ecosystem and require expensive, licensed software like the Keyence Multi-File Analyzer to open, read, or measure. The files are heavily compressed and cannot be natively imported into standard 3D modeling tools or image viewers. Absolute Database files share a similar limitation, as they are locked to specific custom-built software applications.

To make this data usable elsewhere, conversion is mandatory. Scientists typically need to export Keyence data to CSV for statistical analysis, STL for 3D printing, or TIF for scientific publication. Legacy ClipArt files usually need to be extracted into standard JPG or PNG formats for modern graphic design.

The .CAG format is a closed, proprietary structure, which makes it notoriously difficult to open or convert. Standard online converters almost always fail because they lack the specific decoding algorithms held by the original developers. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. Our tools inspect the binary structure, extract embedded text or metadata, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CAG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CAJ, VTX, TMS and WF1 files.

The CAG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CAG converter.
