Convert C2D to another file type

To convert your C2D file to another format, you need Carbide Create or other Cad software.

Convert a file to C2D

To convert other file formats to the "CNC Design File" file type, you need software like Carbide Create or a similar tool.

About C2D files

The .c2d extension primarily identifies a Carbide Create Design file, the proprietary project format used by Carbide 3D for their CNC routers (like the Shapeoko and Nomad). These files store the complete state of a machining project, including 2D vector geometry, simulation data, and toolpath definitions.

The main source of confusion for users is that a .c2d file is a project file, not a machine file; you cannot feed it directly to a CNC controller. It functions as a proprietary container (often based on JSON or SQL structures) that locks your design data inside the Carbide Create ecosystem. To actually cut the part, users must open the file in the software and 'post-process' it to generate GCODE or NC files. Furthermore, users looking to move their designs to more advanced CAD/CAM software like Fusion 360 or Adobe Illustrator often find themselves stuck, as the raw .c2d format is not natively supported by third-party applications. For these workflows, converting the vector data to open standards like SVG or DXF is essential.

A secondary, legacy use for this extension is as a Roxio Disc Image, associated with older burning software like Roxio Creator. These behave like virtual CDs or DVDs. Because modern operating systems and virtualization tools rarely support this specific proprietary container, users typically need to convert these archives to the industry-standard ISO format for reliable mounting and data retrieval.

Convert.Guru analyzes your C2D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CD2, NC, SVG, CNC, ZIP, GCODE, PNG, BIN, PDF, KIT and DXF files.

FAQ

If you want to convert C2D file to NC, SVG, DXF, ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW or QCOW2, you can use Carbide Create or similar software from the "CNC Design Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to C2D, try Carbide Create or another comparable tool in the "CNC Design Project" category.

The C2D Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our C2D converter.
