About NTC files

The .NTC file extension refers to a Nikon Tone Curve file, a proprietary settings format developed by Nikon. Unlike standard image files like JPG or TIFF, this file contains metadata instructions - specifically, a graph of input vs. output tonal values (curves) - used to adjust contrast and brightness. Photographers create these files in software like Nikon Camera Control Pro to upload custom processing rules directly into the camera's firmware. The main frustration for users is that .NTC files are essentially locked boxes; they are binary, unreadable by text editors, and completely incompatible with industry-standard tools like Adobe Lightroom or Capture One. If you switch editng ecosystems, your custom camera profiles become obsolete data bloat. To salvage this data, the ideal workflow involves converting the .NTC data points into an ACV (Adobe Curve) file for use in Adobe Photoshop or a CUBE (LUT) for video workflows. For simple analysis, extracting the curve coordinates to CSV or TXT is the best archiving strategy.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NTC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted C2, HPT and GRG files.

The NTC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NTC converter.
