About BTC files

A .BTC file primarily functions as a proprietary label component used by BarTender, an enterprise barcode and label design software developed by Seagull Scientific. These files store reusable design elements, barcode configurations, or text objects that can be dropped into larger label templates. Alternatively, .BTC files are utilized as interactive presentation content packages by platforms like Cegedim Broadway and Broadsign Player. In these cases, the file is essentially a standard ZIP archive filled with HTML, images, and scripts. You may also encounter .BTC files storing compiled AI behavior trees for video games (like Horizon Zero Dawn's Decima Engine), or configuration data for DEF Network fire alarms and Holley EFI transmission controllers.

The main disadvantage of .BTC files is their heavily fragmented and proprietary nature. A BarTender .BTC component cannot be natively viewed in web browsers or standard graphic design tools like Adobe Illustrator. It requires an expensive, commercial license to open, read, or modify. Users typically need to convert these components to universal formats like PDF or PNG to share design proofs with clients or integrate the labels into non-BarTender workflows. If the file is a presentation package, the format intentionally obscures the standard web assets inside.

Because most .BTC variants are closed and undocumented formats, standard online converters almost always fail to process them. They lack the specific rendering engines required to interpret BarTender's unique data structures or game engine bytecode. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure - such as the embedded ZIP format of a presentation package, or plain text strings in a transmission configuration file - viewing, extraction, and conversion may still be seamlessly possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BTC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BMP, BTW, ETX and LWL files.
