About BSK files
The .BSK file format is heavily fragmented and serves completely different industries. Most commonly, it is a proprietary UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy kinetics data file created by Agilent Cary WinUV software. It holds light absorption measurements used in chemical analysis. Alternatively, it can be a 3D model skeleton file used for character animation in game engines like JMonkeyEngine or Silkroad Online, or an ENC chart order basket for the Admiralty Vector Chart Service (AVCS). Users usually need to convert .BSK files because they are highly restrictive. Scientific .BSK files require an expensive software license to view, trapping your data in a closed ecosystem. 3D .BSK skeletons cannot be directly imported into standard 3D suites like Blender or Maya without writing custom import scripts. The best conversion targets for scientific data are .CSV or .TXT, allowing you to plot the kinetics data in standard spreadsheet tools. For 3D files, exporting to .FBX or .DAE is ideal, though rigging constraints might be lost during the transfer. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it relies on undocumented, proprietary binary structures.
