About BMA files
The .BMA extension is a classic example of a "namespace collision" where multiple software vendors use the same three letters for completely different proprietary formats, creating significant confusion for users. The most widely distributed iteration is the CAD software icon archive or backup file generated by Allplan (Nemetschek Group). These files store project-specific interface elements or drawing data. The frustrating part here is strict proprietary lock-in; you cannot simply double-click to view these contents in Microsoft Photos or edit them in Adobe Photoshop. They are binary containers meaningful only within the Allplan architecture, often exceeding 100MB when acting as project backups.
Simultaneously, you may encounter .BMA files as Bitmap Array assets in simulation games like OpenTTD or Heroes of Annihilated Empires. In this context, the file serves as a container for sprites, textures, or audio. Gamers frequently attempt to open these to extract art or music, only to find that standard media players reject the custom encoding. A third significant user base involves Winbiz Accounting Software, where the file represents a business accounting report. These are digital paper trails, but unlike PDF or XLSX, they lack portability. Sending a raw Winbiz .bma file to an accountant who doesn't own the specific software license renders the data inaccessible.
For Winbiz financial data, the only pragmatic solution is converting the file to PDF (for immutable archiving) or CSV/Excel (for auditing). For game assets, the goal is typically conversion to PNG for images or WAV for audio. For Allplan archives, conversion is rarely possible without the host software; the file usually needs to be restored to the project directory to be readable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BMA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BMA file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use Allplan or similar software from the "CAD Archive & Game Assets" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to BMA, try Allplan or another comparable tool in the "CAD Archive & Game Assets" category.
The BMA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BMA converter.
