About BDG files

.BDG files function primarily as proprietary page layouts for employee ID badges, or as compiled game asset archives. They are typically created and managed by enterprise physical security systems like Lenel OnGuard and Genetec Security Center, or used as data packages for games developed by Pipeworks Software or the Call of Duty franchise.

The core disadvantage of the .BDG format is its extreme vendor lock-in. A badge template built in a corporate ID system cannot be opened or edited in standard design software like Adobe Illustrator. These files are closed binaries, completely unsupported by web browsers, and often require expensive, specialized enterprise licenses to open. Similarly, the game asset variant of the .BDG file is intentionally heavily compressed or encrypted to prevent tampering and reverse engineering.

For practical use, users almost always need to convert badge designs into standard formats like PDF, JPG, or PNG to share proofs with clients or print them externally. Game modders typically look to extract internal OBJ models or image textures.

Because .BDG is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the complex layout data and security layers. Our system will inspect the binary header. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as lighting design .BDG files which are just renamed ZIP archives - viewing or extraction may still be entirely possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BDG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, JPG, BMP, PDF, TRK, GR and CBD files.

The BDG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BDG converter.
