About BASE files
A .base file typically functions as a baseline game configuration file for Bethesda Game Studios titles like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, often managed by modding tools like Mod Organizer 2. Alternatively, it serves as a collaborative database export from Lark Base, formatted internally as JSON. Other obscure uses include satellite receiver firmware for ALI Corp chipsets or misnamed JPEG images. Because the .base extension is shared across entirely unrelated applications, identifying the internal data structure is frustrating. Bethesda config files are plain text but strictly formatted; breaking the syntax will crash the game. Lark Base files are proprietary JSON structures that cannot be easily read in standard spreadsheet software without conversion. Satellite firmware files are proprietary binary blobs that are completely unusable on a PC. To make these files usable, conversion is highly recommended. For Lark Base documents, convert to CSV or JSON for easy import into Microsoft Excel. For Bethesda game configurations, converting or renaming to TXT or INI allows safe editing in Notepad++.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BASE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BASE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BASE converter.
