About BAN files

The .BAN file extension is heavily fragmented and used across completely different systems. Most commonly, it serves as an animation data file for games like Train Simulator, Joymax Silkroad Online, or Live for Speed. In these environments, it stores 3D skeletal movements and character animations. Another major use case is team data storage for football management games like Brasfoot and Dream League Soccer, where it stores player statistics and team rosters using an internal Java-based structure. Historically, .BAN was also used as a proprietary graphic format for printable banners in legacy Broderbund software like PrintMaster and BannerMania.

Users often need to convert .BAN files because they are strictly tied to the engine or software that created them. Game animation files cannot be opened in standard 3D software like Blender or Maya without specific export scripts. Team data files are useless outside their specific football simulators. Legacy Broderbund banners are notoriously difficult to open today because the original software is obsolete and will not run on modern 64-bit operating systems. If you have an old banner, you likely want to convert it to a modern image format like PNG or JPG to view it. If you have a game animation file, you might want to export the data to FBX or OBJ for modding.

Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original game engine or legacy software can properly read or export the data. We inspect the file's internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (such as an XML structure for MicroDraw panel designs, or readable text in a Java football team file), viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BAN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, SCAN, ABL and SSD files.

The BAN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BAN converter.
